COUNCILLORS in Sutton Bridge have urged for plans for a new cemetery for the village to keep progressing.
Sutton Bridge Parish Council was told discussions were still ongoing when members met for their monthly meeting on Tuesday.
According to a report on the project, representatives of St Matthew’s Church have confirmed they are prepared to administer the new cemetery when it is provided.
It has been suggested the council might want to contact neighbouring authorities to see what their future burial requirments are to “share the burden of cost” with Sutton Bridge.
The report also revealed a letter has been sent to Scott Miraclegro to ascertain whether it would consider selling a portion of land which would be accessible by the A17 or through Memorial Park.
However, concerns have been raised about potential access problems for the elderly and disabled.
Soil analysis also needs to be undertaken on all potential sites to see whether they are suitable for burials.
Coun Jenny Rowe said: “We need to keep this moving.”
