She’s always wanted her own business, and now the dream has become a reality for Julie Kirby who is launching New Beginnings Bridalwear shop in Long Sutton.

As well as a stunning selection of wedding dresses – many of which are available in larger, plus-sizes – Julie, of Holbeach Bank, will also be stocking a range of bridesmaid and prom dresses, plus tiaras and other accessories.

New Beginnings, which is located at unit number 7 Hoddins Way, just off Gedney Road, officially opened its doors on Saturday, when customers could drop in between 10am and 4pm to view the collection and make an appointment to try dresses on.

“Having my own bridal wear shop is just something that I’ve always wanted to do,” says Julie, who works as a carer and will continue do so while her new business venture takes off.

“I’ve been a carer for a long time, the work is hard and very rewarding but I just felt like the time was right to follow my dream.

“I thought this would be a great location as it’s close to where I live and a good area – close to the A17 and with a lot of through traffic. Now it’s all about letting people know I am here and what we have to offer.”

As well as stocking regular sizes, Julie has also decided to champion plus-sized dresses too, after hearing stories of women offered only a small choice of gowns in a larger size.

“I want all brides to have a great experience planning for their wedding so although we do have some in regular sizes, we also have a lot of dresses which are going to be more suitable for curvier ladies,” she added.

Julie is also stocking a small selection of occasion wear for children and has teamed up with another business owner on the Hoddins Way estate – Denise Crawley, of Ark Kids – to offer a sweet cart for hire.

She added that the shop would not be opening without the help and support of her three children Daniel, Adam and Beth and daughter-in-law Becky, who have been helping with the website, promotions, fitting the shop out and preparing and labelling the dresses among other tasks.

• New Beginnings is open Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. For more information follow on Facebook by searching New Beginnings Bridal Wear.
