Donington and Spalding firefighters joined battle to save Whaley Bridge from dam collapse

One of the Donington firefighters who battled to save a dam from collapse has spoken of the ‘very desperate’ situation at Whaley Bridge.

The watch manager for the retained Donington station, John Scott, was part of a five man team that was deployed to the Derbyshire town amid fears that it could flood.

A boat team, including firefighters from the Spalding station, were also sent to the scene.
