A dog rescue centre was not prepared for the amazing response when Brownies from Holbeach decided to help them.

Helper Margaret Barker had inspired the 1st Holbeach Brownies when she started taking dog blankets and coats that she had knitted for the Jerry Green Dog Rescue Centre in Algarkirk into pack meetings.

Jean Dean, Brown Owl, said: “It all just snowballed from there. We sent a flyer home with the children and ended up with blankets, coats and loads and loads of food.

“The children did very well and the rescue centre was very surprised with the amount of stuff we had for them.”

The presentation was made at the Brownie hut in Holbeach on Thursday.

Jo Hickson of Jerry Green (pictured centre) took along a black labrador toy for the Brownies to at and gave a talk on micro-chipping.

Jean said: “The children were spellbound by the talk because they didn’t know a lot about it. Then the Brownies entertained the visitors with some songs. It was a really very pleasant event.” SG260215-114TW
