Interesting tales to tell

Have your say

As a family history researcher, my paternal lineage to the Thompson and Doxford Shipbuilders of the North East has shown many an interesting tale.

The Thompsons were my great-grandfathers. This maritime history has shown The Middleton family ie Kate’s ancestors were mariners/ships carpenters throughout the 1800s on the River Wear.

In later years her grandmother was born into a Sunderland mining family. For anyone who is interested her family tree is well documented on the internet, and Thompson Shipbuilders is too.

It seems our new Dutchess Kate has local connections too. The Martineau families in Norfolk (Middleton lineage) are Huguenot refugees from the Dordogne.

Closer to home the Gee family (grocers and drapers) of Long Sutton and Holbeach in the 1850s are also featured on the Middleston family tree.

I gather some of these lines have come full circle going back into Royal and aristocratic families. So if you have connections it’s well worth a look at this history.
