A planning inspector visited Spalding on Monday - as an appeal over controversial plans for an adult gaming centre comes to a close.

Merkur Slots wants permission to open in the former Dorothy Perkins store in Hall Place - but was refused this by South Holland District Council last year.

Merkur appealed the decision - and both it and the council have submitted written evidence.

The council argues the plan would harm the ‘vitality’ of the town centre - but Merkur says it would bring an empty shop back into use and create jobs.

A spokesman for The Planning Inspectorate said a decision should be expected within three weeks.

The centre would feature casino-style machines and bingo tablets.
