Incidents prompt heatwave burglary warning from South Holland police
Police have urged residents to be on their guard in the heatwave after incidents in which burglars have been able to target unlocked homes and cars.
In recent weeks a number of residents have reported would-be raiders trying the doors of their homes or vehicles - and police say there are cases in which they have been successful.
With many people leaving windows open to air their homes - or spending time in their garden away from the front door - there's a heightened risk of becoming a burglary victim during the current heatwave.
South Holland Inspector Nick Waters said: “We have seen some incidents where unlocked cars and unlocked homes have been targeted.
"Officers are examining several pieces of CCTV and where appropriate crime scene investigators have attended.
"We would appeal to everyone to make sure they secure their vehicles and homes, even in the hot weather, to ensure thieves don’t take advantage.”
