Holbeach Town Band could “do with some help on front row cornet” with three concerts coming up.

Dates are Last Night of The Proms on Saturday at Moulton, Music in the Gardens on Sunday at Ayscoughfee Hall, Spalding, and Last Night of the Proms in Holbeach on Saturday, September 29.

The band is going forward with optimism.

Musical director Mel Hopkin said: “We are delighted that, after a long period of uncertainty, the Holbeach Parish Council have now agreed to give the band the security of a 20-year lease of its bandroom.

“We are a little apprehensive about the council’s proposal to put a break clause in the lease every three years so that the lease can be ended by either side ‘if something better turns up’. We await the precise terms of the lease with interest.

“The period of uncertainty has meant that we have had to build up a fund towards new premises and have had to restrict our spending to essentials. Now we can improve the band’s equipment and facilities.

“We have the strongest band we’ve had for many years with 37 in the Town Band and another 20 in the Learner Groups.”
