The people who have supported Harold Payne’s charity efforts on behalf of war veterans and their families were thanked on Saturday evening.

A total of 320 people attended a buffet and evening of entertainment at Holbeach Community Centre arranged by Harold, of the Anglia Motel at Fleet Hargate.

At the evening, money raised in the past year was handed over to good causes – £1,000 to the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, £1,700 to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, £4,000 towards the cost of taking veterans to Normandy in June, and £13,000 to The Royal Anglican Regiment Benevolent Fund.

Harold said this latest donation to the Royal Anglican fund would bring their total donation over five years to £100,000.

Guests were entertained by singers, including Dennis Hannant, who acted as compere for the evening.

This will be the 23rd year Harold has taken veterans to Normandy – just two of the original 60 are left now – and in that time he has helped raise around £620,000.
