Man fell asleep at the wheel and drove car into a ditch after drinking four pints of beer
A 26-year-old Holbeach man fell asleep and drove his car into a ditch after a night out with friends while he was at more than twice the legal alcohol limit, a court has heard.
Scott Daniel Forman of East Elloe Avenue, admitted driving with excess alcohol when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court yesterday (Weds, September 19).
Prosecuting, Marie Stace said that at around 6am on August 25, police were called to the collision at Moulton on the A151 High Road where they found Forman with his VW Polo which he had driven into a ditch.
She said he provided a positive breath test and was arrested, telling officers he had fallen asleep at the wheel after a night out with friends and admitted to drinking four pints of beer.
Ms Stace said a reading of 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath was provided, more than twice the legal limit of 35.
Mitigating, Lisa Elkington said Forman, who had no previous convictions, had gone to a pub after work, not originally intending to drink, but a friend had bought him one and between 4pm and 3am he had had four pints of beer.
She said he did stop to have a drink of coffee but he nevertheless ended up in the ditch.
Forman was banned from driving for 20 months but was offered the drink drivers' rehabilitation course which will reduce the period of the ban by 20 weeks.
He was also fined £460 and ordered to pay £131 in costs and charges.
