Youngsters at a Girl Guides’ group in Holbeach are “desperately” hoping for someone to take over as their new leader before Easter.
The future of 1st Holbeach Guides is at risk unless one, or a group of parents, come forward to take over the group which meets on Monday evenings during the school term from 6.30 until 8pm.
Only one possible offer of help has been received so far and, as I hope people can appreciate, time is shortMary Lane, Leader of 1st Holbeach Guides
But Monday could be the group’s last ever meeting at Holbeach Scout and Guide Hut, behind HSBC Bank, in High Street, unless a successor to current leader Mary Lane can be found.
Mary said: “We are desperately in need of a new leader to take over from me after Easter and if we are unsuccessful then the unit will have to close.
“I have put advertisements in two of the local and widely distributed village magazines (in Holbeach and Moulton/Whaplode) and I have also sent out a plea for help to parents.
“But only one possible offer of help has been received so far and, as I hope people can appreciate, time is short.
“The Guides meet on a Monday evening and will continue to do so until the end of March, so it would be a shame if the unit was to close.”
The group is the only Guide unit in Holbeach but although there is an assistant leader already in place, she is unable to take over from Mary.
Full training is available and no previous experience is necessary, but a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will need to be done.
