Holbeach Cemetery Chapels trustees recently organised a Stained Glass Workshop, led by Strawberry Glass tutors Gillian and David Wing.

This was one of the final activities funded by the Heritage Lottery, which has supported a range of events and initiatives over the past 18 months, to ensure community understanding and support for the long-term aim of getting the chapels refurbished.

Ten people thoroughly enjoyed the day-long workshop and created some beautiful stained glass decorative pieces using the copper foil technique. Participants learnt how to cut glass, copper foil the pieces and finish by soldering and polishing their works of art.

The Cemetery Chapels trustees recently heard they had been awarded generous funding from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme and hope to continue offering activities this year. During this time a bid will be prepared for funding to renovate the Chapels and provide a sustainable business plan to secure their long term future.

The Trustees are delighted to participate in the South Holland Heritage Taster week that will be taking place the first week of April, with one of the popular cemetery trails on April 2 in the afternoon and a Children’s Drama Workshop on the morning of Friday, April 6. Details will be found on the website: www.holbeachcemeterychapels.org.uk
