People in Holbeach are working with a professional artist to create an attractive community hub in their town.
Artist Steve Hatton is running a number of workshops to engage people in the project to give the Holbeach Cemetery Chapels windows a makeover.
Transported communications and relationships manager Melissa Poulson said the project came out of something launched last year called On Your Doorstep.
She said: “We invited people to nominate an area in the community that could benefit from some artistic input and the Holbeach Cemetery Chapels Group nominated the cemetery chapels.
“They are looking to develop it into a community hub but the windows are all boarded up.
“The idea is that artist Steve Hatton is going to create some murals which will cover up the boards so it will brighten the whole thing really.”
A group of people have formed a steering committee under the parish council and are trying to repair and regenerate the Grade 2 listed monument chapel in the cemetery.
Their website says , with modern facilities, it could be used for educational purposes for schools, for wildlife projects, or to study family history.
Taking inspiration from colour, light and stained glass windows, Steve ran a workshop at the cemetery chapels to start getting ideas for the murals. More workshops will take place in schools.
The murals will be unveiled at a special event on May 16 that is still being organised, so there are no more details available yet.
