Look out for Santa and his sleigh in Holbeach, Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge from Saturday
Here's the new, revamped sleigh that a group of volunteers have been hard at work refurbishing for its outings from Saturday (December 1).
The team took over the sleigh from the East Elloe Lions' Club, which sadly folded, and they have given it a complete makeover over the past twelve months.
That team includes Ray Perkins and his wife Christine, Rick Garner, David Baker, Nick Thomas, Richard Hillam, Chris Brandon-King and Jane Francis.
Former Para Ray said: “We have revamped it totally. It looked tired. We’ve added glitter, bells, lights everywhere and also have some artificial snow.”
Volunteer and blacksmith Richard, based near Tydd, added wrought iron metal work to give the finishing touch to the runners around the base of the sleigh. Bridge Hardware in Sutton Bridge donated paint; and Kwik Signs produced the signs on the sleigh and lettering on the jackets that volunteers will wear when they join Santa for his outings.
Christine added: “We were looking on the internet for some snowflakes to stick on and found a company that does those you’d find on shop windows (Christmas Sticker Factory in Wales). When we went to pay they said it’s free. They didn’t even know us.”
The sleigh runs will raise funds for the Armed Forces charity SSAFA; and proceeds from the visits in Sutton Bridge will go towards the village Christmas street lights fund.
The sleigh will visit:
