The district council has decided that people aged 18-21 leaving care in South Holland won't have to pay council tax.

Coun Peter Coupland, portfolio holder for finance, said: "Both local and national government and the rest of society have a moral obligation to provide as much support as they can to help these young people make the transition to adulthood and independent living. This is a very positive step from South Holland District Council and will be a great help to those impacted by it."

The council decision stems from the Government's care leaver strategy 'Keep on Caring', which encourages local authorities to consider how they can help care leavers to meet their council tax payments.
