Bourne tattoo artist is raising awareness of World Suicide Day
A tattoo artist will be raising money for two good causes which support suicide prevention.
Lee Black from Mod ‘n’ Ink wants to support World Suicide Day, which takes place on Thursday, September 10, and help others by offering a heart design tattoo.
Mr Black, who is based in South Street, Bourne, has been inspired by clients’ personal stories to raise money for Mind and the Samaritans.
He said: “A tattoo can be a suit of armour or a shield for people who are going through a difficult time.
“Sometimes they can be incredibly powerful as a reminder.”
More than 6,800 people in the UK and Republic of Ireland died as a result of suicide in 2018.
The Samaritans are campaigning with more than 70 other organisations to help suicide prevention become a priority.
Mr Black is offering one of two heart designs for a minimum donation of £20.
He said: “These are nice subtle designs for people who want to share or keep the meaning private.”
Mr Black has been a tattoo artist for 20 years after becoming fascinated with the art during a family trip to Southend.
One of the biggest changes he has seen is the increased number of women getting tattoos.
Mr Black said: “When I first started there were very few women coming in for a tattoo but now 75% to 85% of our clients are female. We have mums coming in with their daughters.”
