Future of Welland site still unclear

HEALTH chiefs are remaining tight-lipped over the future of Spalding’s Welland Hospital.

The former hospital building on Roman Bank has sat empty since its services transferred over to the new Johnson Community Hospital in Pinchbeck.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which owns the Welland Hospital site, this week refused to confirm whether it was still for sale, saying the matter was “commercially confidential”.

It also refused to confirm whether an estate agent had been marketing the property for a potential sale.

In a statement, Mike Speakman, the trust’s director of estates, said: “The sale of the old Welland hospital site remains commercial in confidence at this stage.”

The old Johnson Hospital, in Priory Road, Spalding, was also replaced by the new community hospital in Pinchbeck. It was sold in October to Dryden Ltd, although plans for its renovation have yet to be revealed.
