THE demolition of Spalding’s vandalised and eyesore Welland Hospital has been postponed.

United Lincolnshire Hospital Trust had pledged to have the Roman Bank building bulldozed this month but it’s now likely that work will be delayed until at least October.

A spokesman for ULHT said the demolition contract went out to tender with yesterday as the deadline.

Depending on which company wins the contract, the site will be handed over in the last week of September with demolition due to begin next month.

The hospital has been vandalised – with NHS property flung out of windows – and regularly targeted by arsonists. It was last used as a working hospital only two years ago.
