Have a head for heights and like your own company - then this job in Sutton Bridge could be for you
If you are looking for an unusual job and live within 10 miles of Sutton Bridge then a current vacancy offered by Lincolnshire County Council could be for you.
You will need to have a head for heights, not be afraid of water and willing to work an anti-social shift pattern if you want to be a new operator at the Cross Keys Swing Bridge.
The council's job advert describes the vacancy as "an exceptional opportunity for someone interested in sharing in the operation and maintenance of the historic Cross Keys Swing Bridge at Sutton Bridge".
It is a full time position of around 40 hours a week and pays up to £25,329 a year - depending on the night shift option the lucky candidate chooses.
Duties not only include operating the bridge, but also routine maintenance and cleaning of the structure. Therefore the successful applicant will need confidence in working over water and at heights and also an ability to access constrained areas using ladders and hatches.
The advert, which appeared in Wednesday's Citizen, adds: "The position requires a self-motivated, self-reliant individual, who is able to demonstrate an intelligent common sense approach to problems and communicate effectively with colleagues, members of the public and contractors.
"However, as well as living within 10 miles of the bridge and being part of the call out service, the right person will need to work an anti-social shift pattern. For the majority of the time this will be on your own, sharing the 24 hour staffing of the bridge with three other operators. You will also need to cover leave and other absences."
Apart from the living requirement the applicant needs at least four GCSEs at C or above and some understanding of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
