Home-Start South Holland staff and volunteers recently came together for some ‘Live Well Champions’ training.
Provided through Lincolnshire County Council and partners, the training equips people with basic health advice and the skills to guide and encourage friends and family.
Home-Start South Holland is a local family support charity, providing a ‘parents supporting parents’ befriending service and offering practical and emotional support to families with young children (under the age of five).
Its main funder is the Big Lottery Reaching Communities project, which funded the organisation to deliver a five-year project from last January.
As part of the support for volunteers, regular training and supervision is provided.
At this event volunteers enjoyed a healthy lunch cooked by the staff team and certificates recognising recent training were presented.
One group were new volunteers who had completed their induction training to become home-visiting volunteers.
The other group had been part of a project run by Holbeach Academy University of Lincoln.
This project provided volunteers with the resources to demonstrate to families in their homes how to be creative at producing meals from the store cupboard (dry foods).
There are lots of volunteering opportunities to help local families in South Holland; whether direct work with families, or behind the scenes supporting them to raise funds, their profile, or to take part in the strategic direction of the organisation.
They are planning to start their next Preparation Course on Wednesday, March 4.
The course will be delivered over 10 weeks and during term time hours in Weston.
