Somebody has approached me to suggest I have been ‘hard’ on customer service people, having passed comments in recent bits of culture that you are reading presently, but I did explain that I do know something about ‘customer service’ but the face to face variety.

My ‘baptism of fire’ was working for a retail tyre company as a tyre fitter initially but before being let loose on potential customers there was the ‘induction process’ as it’s called nowadays but then – a few decades ago but not too many, please – it was called ‘learning the ropes’ but amounted to about the same thing, different spelling.
