There was good news for Mrs E Biggadike, of East Lea Cottage, Holbeach, in 1916.
Her two sons were due to receive six gold stripes. One, Pte Charles Biggadike, had been wounded and was in hospital. He had joined the Northamptonshire Regiment at the outbreak of the war.
His brother Sgt Riley Biggadike, who was serving with the Lincolns, had joined up before the war, and been wounded five times.
There was recognition too for Holbeach Bank gunner Percy Middleton who was also mentioned in this newspaper. Percy had joined the RFA in January 1915 and had been serving in France a year.
