After attending open days to find the perfect primary school for your child, it is vital to have the application in on time.

Lincolnshire County Council advises parents to submit applications between November 15 and January 15 but bids will be accepted until February 15.

Parents are encouraged to list their three preferred schools on the application form, which can be completed digitally or the traditional paper route.

The council’s ‘Going to Primary School in Lincolnshire’ brochure states: “The schools receive a list of all applications received, with no information regarding to where the school appears in the order of preferences.

“Schools then rank the applications in line with their oversubscription criteria and submit this to the school admissions team.

“The school admissions team then process the application to see which schools can be offered to a child.

“If more than one school can offer a place, the parent’s order of preferences will be used to decide which school should be offered.

“One offer is made to each child, therefore, if more than one school can offer a place, the school with the highest preference position is offered and the other places are released for other applicants.

“If none of your preferred schools can offer a place and you live in Lincolnshire, the school admissions team will offering the nearest school to your home address that has an available place in your child’s year group.

“We advise you not to refuse the school place offered so that your child has a secure place for September. If a school is unable to offer you a place, accepting an alternative offer does not affect your right to appeal.”

Popular schools can be oversubscribed so parents are urged to add supportive evidence on their application.

Some schools consider medical or faith grounds but looked after children will be given priority.

If you have a child already at the school then this should be included on the admission form.

Any further supportive evidence should be emailed to schooladmissions@lincolnshire.gov.uk

Parents will not have to wait too long as letters offering a primary school place will be sent out from April 19.

Families unhappy with the offered school place have the right of appeal.

The appeal timetable will be listed on the authorities websites from February 28.
