As more women were called to work on the land in place of men at war, someone had to take care of their children.

This photograph which appeared in our newspapers in 1916 shows Mrs Osborn, of Gedney Drove End, looking after 16 children while their mothers went out to work on farms in the district.

The report remarked on how the arrangement for looking after children had “long ago been successfully adopted in such an isolated spot as Drove End.”
