This one is for nostalgia buffs only – as the first ‘great’ home computing footie game gets the next-gen treatment.
Before FIFA and PES, there were vertically scrolling top-down view games like Kick Off (which was followed by Sensible Soccer a couple of years later), and Dino Dini’s legendary game gets a ‘tribute’ outing here – and it just throws you in and let’s you play.
But sadly without the ‘old school’ joystick it does take a little while to get used to, and the complete lack of presentation and official licensing does suck the enjoyment (and charm) out of the game somewhat.
Maybe developer tweaks via gaming patches will iron out some of the severe lack of depth, but as it stands this is still a noteworthy blast from the past that fanboys should lap up – but at the moment it just hits the post.
