The only Free Press man killed in World War II

One name that will be carved with pride on the new WWII Memorial in Spalding is that of RAF Flt Sgt wireless operator Gordon Prescott.

Gordon was just 22 when he was shot down over Munich at 10.30pm on January 7, 1945.

He was one of a Lancaster crew of seven who perished that night after leaving Wickenby airfield at 6.30pm.
