An empty listed building in Spalding can now be transformed into flats - after planning permission was granted.

Plans for the ex Fitness Company gym in Spring Gardens were determined straight after approval was given for the next door sorting office at last week’s district council planning committee meeting.

Market Homes got permission to put two one-bed and five two-bed flats in the building - which will keep its outer appearance.

Chairman James Avery said: “Once upon a time this was Geest Social Club and I have spent many an hour there being social. My daughter also used to attend dancing lessons there.”

He added: “The report gives me confidence that the outside and inside of the heritage of this building will be protected.”

Coun Jack Tyrrell said: “At the end of the day everything has to move on - I can’t see a problem with it.”

Objections to the change of use from dance/fitness studio were raised over the lack of parking - with the next door land not included in the site.
