FOCUS ON FITNESS: Taking each day and week at a time
Lockdown 3 and a place that nobody wanted to be in. As lockdowns go I think by far this is probably the most challenging due to the time of year plus the weather conditions... also the fact that this is our third time!
Dull days and dark nights if we’re not careful can start to have a negative impact on our mental health and wellbeing.
Which is why staying active has never been more important, if not for anything else but down to how it makes us feel by lifting our mood.
For me fitness gives me an energy and lifts my mood. It gives me the motivation and focus to challenge myself which in turn makes me feel accomplished when I do make any kind of progress or achievement.
I also find that being part of a community, ie with my gym, helps massively. Whether it be an online HITT (high-intensity interval training) class, someone to talk to down the other end of the phone or a socially distant PT (personal training) session...
Add all of that together and it can really help get you through this challenging time.
I’m also a believer that having a routine can really help to ground you.
Working out at the same time each day can give you that structure which in turn helps us cope.
It gives you that clarity rather than getting into the habit of just drifting or not bothering.
I hope that, however you are getting through this, that you are doing okay. However bad this might feel right now this is not forever and let’s face it... if we can get through a pandemic we can get through ANYTHING!
In the meantime we keep going and pushing through each day and week... which is as far as I’m looking.
We now have the vaccine in our armour so let’s look forward to better times ahead.
