Villagers are calling for action after a foot of flood water was lapping near their door steps.

Flooding was seen in parts of Woodgate Road in Moulton Chapel following the heavy rains on June 5, prompting concerns from residents living in the area.

People living in the area are now being urged to report any problems to Lincolnshire County Council’s Fix My Street service in order to highlight the problems.

The problems were highlighted during the last Moulton Parish Council meeting on Tuesday last week.

Coun Lawrence Wakefield reported the problem, which happened in the loop which runs from Roman Road behind the former Plough pub, and raised concerns about the run-off of water.

He said: “I should think the water was a foot deep and just about up to the door steps of people’s houses.

“If you wanted to go out, you couldn’t without a good pair of wellies on.

“We are getting so many houses in the village and all the run off.”

County council ward member, Coun Nigel Pepper, reported that he had a meeting with highways officials on the site.

Coun Pepper said: “I got the highways manager out of his office which is unusual to get to look at it.

“I don’t personally know what the answer is. There are lots of gullies but a lot are covered over by mud. I suspect there was a dyke or pond there years ago.”

Coun Pepper added: “There are more gullies than you can throw your hat at but they must have led some where and that is what we need to find out.”

He has also urged people to lodge complaints on the county council’s website in order to highlight the problems.

Coun Pepper said: “Looking at Fix My Street (website) and not one member of the public has complained about it. What I would urge you to do is to keep putting it on Fix My Street. The more people who put that on there the better.”

Council chairman Andrew Woolf also told the meeting that there had been also been a number of issues in Moulton including West Cobgate, Broad Lane and Church Lane.

He said: “You could have had used a boat to get over the Village Green. There is potentially collapsed drain.”

Rob Gibson, who also represents the ward on the county council, said that he had been looking into the problems in West Cobgate. He told the meeting that there had been some root infestation in the pipes in West Cobgate and that there was a collapsed drain.

Coun Gibson said: “They fix the problems but it is not a quick process.”

- The council praised the three villages for the successful Jubilee celebrations.

- Vernon Ingham was also co-opted and the council will be taking part in Moulton Scarecrow competition.
