Weston based firm to create around 100 jobs is welcomed

South Holland’s jobs market is getting a boost thanks to the creation of around 100 new positions.

Flamingo is recruiting for a mixture of permanent and temporary roles for its site in Weston thanks to seeing a rise in demand for flowers via its online business.

This will come as welcome news for the area which has seen a dramatic rise in those who are seeking help since the pandemic hit. Some 7,776 people claimed Universal Credit during December 2020 compared with 3,128 in November 2019.

Zeri James, HR director for the Flamingo Group, said the firm is creating in the region of 100 jobs and will also be increasing the operational hours for the Weston site to keep up with the demand.

He said: “Our online flowers business is experiencing a period of strong sales.

“It is going to create additional jobs. We have a mixture of permanent and temporary jobs. Some are skilled and some are semi-skilled and we are actively recruiting from our Weston site.

“Home delivery is strong as people are looking for ways to brighten up their homes and cheer themselves up and flowers are a strong product.”

The news of the recruitment has been welcomed by South Holland District Council leader Gary Porter, who was recently told that the district had more than 750 vacancies.

He said: “It is always good news when any firm says they are recruiting but given the wider economic shocks out there it is fantastic that they need more people.

“Clearly people need to change careers for a little while and it is a good place for them to go. Hopefully this will be one of many firms that are looking to expand in South Holland.”
