Magistrates in Boston have fined a Spalding man found in possession of a pepper spray cannister in the early hours of the morning.

Bogdan Blanaru (31), of Pennygate, who admitted possessing the weapon, was said to have been speaking to police officers on another matter at 12.55am on September 26 in New Road, when he repeatedly used the words 'my spray'.

Andrew Convoy, prosecuting, said that when officers asked him what he meant by that, he produced a can of pepper spray.

In interview, he said he had bought the cannister on eBay and had been carrying it for self-defence.

Mr Convoy said Blanaru had been given a community order with unpaid work in 2019 for possessing false identification documents.

The magistrates told him that although he may be able to buy pepper spray on eBay, it was illegal to have it and fined him £360 and ordered him to pay a total of £121 in court costs and charges.
