FILM PREVIEW: STONES FOR THE RAMPART (15)
SHOWCASE CINEMAS PETERBOROUGH, FROM FRIDAY
Showcase Cinemas Peterborough is providing two special screenings every night from tomorrow until next Thursday (April 23) for hit Polish film, Stones for the Rampart (Kamienie na Szaniec).
Screenings take place at 19.30 and 22.05 during those nights for this Robert Glinski–directed war drama – based on a well-known Polish novel – which tells the true-life story of a group of scouts called ‘Szare Szeregi’ (Gray Ranks), which has remained legendary for more than seventy years.
During the Nazi occupation of Warsaw they partake in a daring plot to rescue one its members – who has been imprisoned and tortured by the Germans – from right under the noses of the enemy, in this English-subtitled movie which stars Kamil Szeptycki, Marcel Sabat and Tomasz Zietek.
This maverick military action was the single biggest feat of this kind undertaken by a youth resistance organisation in all of occupied Europe during the Second World War, as the group defied the acceptance of the Nazi invasion – and heroically engaged in the struggle to bring honour and liberty to their precious homeland.
