A WHOLE lot better late than never was the verdict after Whaplode Primary School held its summer fete this month.
Rain stopped the annual event - the main fundraiser to keep the school’s swimming pool running – on its usual date in the summer term.
When the weather didn’t improve after one cancellation, the swimming pool committee opted for Sunday, September 16 instead.
The September weather was more summery than June and the fete made a respectable £500-plus towards the swimming pool fund.
Spokesperson Mary Grist said: “We opted for a late summer fete after the normal summer one had to be cancelled when it was so wet – and it was very successful.
“Lots of year six children ran stalls and parents, volunteers and friends supported it fully.
“Everyone really enjoyed it!”
