Holbeach area couple have launched a rural living competition website

A couple have started up a new business which offers local people the chance to win items ideal for rural living.

Emma (30) and Tim (37) Portor, of Fleet Hargate, had the idea to start up the competition site Chance Rural at the start of the year - and since then it has grown.

The website - www.chancerural.co.uk - allows people to buy tickets at £3.99 to win fantastic items such as a break at Center Parks.

Emma, who works as an insurance broker while husband Tim is a farm worker, has been pleased with the success of the business since it was launched in January.

She said: “We try to find prizes that we think that the rural community would love to win.

“We have been really pleased with how it has grown and how people have taken to it. People need to trust the process of how you are going to do the draw and that it is completely transparent.

“Our draw is live on Facebook with a number generator.

“We want to keep it fairly local at the moment and support local businesses as well.”

Rural living is the theme of all the prizes up for grabs on the Chance Rural website.

A ride-on John Deere Gator along with must-have Fairfax and Favour boots are among some of the prizes which have been won by local people from Gosberton and Upwell.

The couple have also offered £50 vouchers to support their local pub, The Rose and Crown in Fleet Hargate, in recent weeks.

Emma said: “We come up with the ideas of what we would like to win.

“We have also asked on social media for ideas of prizes that people would like to see.

“We try our best where we can to support local businesses and the rural community as well along the way.

“We bought some Le Chameau boots from Chandlers in Whaplode and we have purchased the gator from Ben Burgess in Oakham.

“We have a Fire 7 tablet and the idea of that is to support the community larder in Holbeach.”

The couple are aiming to keep the website as local as possible in order to provide people with a greater chance of winning when compared to national sites.

Emma said: “We try to keep the ticket price as reasonable as we can and if people want to increase their chances they are welcome to do that.

“Some sites limit the number of tickets you can buy for each draw.

“We don’t do that, you are welcome to buy as many tickets as you like for each draw.”

This Friday’s draw, which will take place over Facebook, will be for an Ooni Pizza Oven.

A break at Center Parks is also up for grabs with tickets priced at £3.99 or £9.99 for three.

The site is also offering local people the chance t use the discount code Local 10.
