Flinders Founders Teen Park in Donington held its ever-popular open day for the local community yesterday (Wednesday).
Hordes of youngsters flocked to the BMX and skating ramps and showed off their skills and the event’s two bouncy castles were just as popular.
Flinders Founders member, Margaret Wright, said: “This open day is a celebration to thank everyone who has helped the park, particularly the grant givers.
“We’d also like to thank ARB-Core Tree Surgeons for all the help they gave us with the gardens.”
The open days, a wonderful family event, happen roughly three times a year and encourage people of all ages to attend.
There was a raffle with lots of prizes generously donated by Sports Direct, and a barbecue offered tasty refreshments, whilst popular tunes were played by a musician.
Later in the afternoon, a BMX and scooter riding competition was held to see who could pull off the neatest tricks.
The voluntary community youth group opened the park in 2008 and since then it has been developed into something that youths from miles around can come to for socialising and having fun on the ramps.
Margaret added: “Youths have grown up with this park and it really helps them to develop social skills while having fun.”
