AN image from the Lincolnshire Free Press archives of West Pinchbeck tug-of-war team brought back fond memories for David and Joan Kilbon.
The picture, which appeared in our sister paper on May 24, was taken in 1971 and showed the squad with the trophies they had won.
The team was due to defend their title at Willoughby House Farm, West Pinchbeck. But what David and Joan (formerly Tatam) particularly remember of that weekend is being introduced for the first time, by Joan’s cousin.
Joan said: “I lived in London at the time and my cousin took me up to the pub for a drink where I met David.”
The tug-of-war was followed by a dance, which the couple attended together, and they will be celebrating their 40th anniversary in February.
They married in Sutterton, where Joan grew up, and where they lived until moving to Norfolk in 2006.
Joan got in touch with these newspapers after a relative sent her a cutting of the tug-of-war picture, and says David is standing on the back row, third from left.
She added: “In the front row, third left, is our best man Brian Coaten, and we have lost touch with him. Some of that team are no longer with us but David can still name every single one.”
