Have your say

Where have the last 12 weeks gone since I last wrote in here? A cold, winter- like spring and now May is here and we have temperatures that the Canary Islands would love right now, writes young farmer Martin Ulyatt.

Riding round in my sprayer it seems to look like winter has now gone and summer is here. Where has the spring disappeared to? Is this all the effect of the so called climate change or just the way seasons are now changing?

Crops being put in later than normal: will that result in a later harvesting season or will this warm spell help things catch up?

I’m no weather forecaster or agronomist so we will have to wait and see what happens now our farm is all about planted up, with just a couple of fields of vegetables to be planted.

Good news: congratulations to Spalding & District Young Farmers’ Club on being crowned Lincolnshire YFC club of the year for the second year in a row. It is judged on how a club meeting is held in front of a judging panel, and then a slide show presentation was presented at the pre-rally competition day to explain everything we do weekly both as a club and in the local community. Well done to chairman Oliver Wilson and his management team. They do a great job putting an interesting programme together each week and it is a great organisation to be involved in.
