Bus stop plea is rejected

TRANSPORT campaigners are upset that their plea for a new bus stop in Spalding has been rejected by Lincolnshire County Council.

There’s already a bus stop outside the railway station – on the same side of the road – but Spalding and Peterborough Transport Forum wanted one on the other side for passengers riding the opposite way.

Forum chairman George Scott said: “We were hoping for a six months trial but they turned it down on health and safety reasons – which we don’t accept – because it’s on a bend.”

He said there are bus stops in far more precarious positions, including the one outside the swimming pool.

Mr Scott said ideally the forum would have liked Sainsbury’s to provide a layby for buses while building their extension but that won’t happen now because it isn’t included in the store’s planning application.
