A regular column from South Holland Centre, Spalding.
There’s a buzz of excitement snaking its way around the South Holland Centre this month.
Listen closely and you could hear the odd giggle in the foyer, a chuckling technician backstage or a downright guffaw from the admin office.
And the reason behind this tidal wave of tittering?
We’re in eager anticipation of LipService Theatre’s The Picture of Doreen Gray on Wednesday, October 28 at 7.30pm.
We’ve hosted LipService and their own brand of surreal and silly theatre before and, put simply, it’s pure comedy gold.
(How could anyone have forgotten their Scandi inspired knitted set when they last visited with Inspector Norse?)
This time, their eccentric twist on the Oscar Wilde classic sees celebrity presenter Doreen Gray living the high life, presenting her own show, known fondly as ‘Top Gear meets the Antiques Roadshow’.
As her 50th birthday looms, Doreen starts to find her face no longer fits the bill.
Then, at a school reunion she stumbles upon an old self portrait drawn by her teenage self and makes a dark and dreadful pact that will come back to haunt her…
Described by The Guardian as ‘The Laurel and Hardy of literary deconstruction’, LipService, aka Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding, have gone on to win multiple awards for their inventive and hilarious touring productions.
So if, like some of us, you are attracted to the sublimely silly things in life, The Picture of Doreen Gray is bound to be a big draw!
Tickets are £12.50, £11 concession or £7.50 from the Box Office 01775 764777 or www.southhollandcentre.co.uk
