A17 Sutton Bridge: swing bridge reopens to two-way traffic

Cross Keys swing bridge at Sutton Bridge has reopened to two-way traffic following £100,000 resurfacing works.

The bridge fully reopened yesterday - five days earlier than planned - bringing an end to queues misery on the A17, a diversion route via Wisbech and in Bridge Road, the main street in Sutton Bridge.

Lincolnshire County Council says while the bridge now has both of its traffic lanes open some work remains to be done on the bridge turret.

The resurfacing began on September 30 and one lane was completed in four days, but then the job ground to a halt - and the bridge re-opened to two-way traffic - because of a materials supply problem.

Work on the second carriageway started on Tuesday, October 15.
