Spalding woman fundraising on the world's fastest zip wire in memory of her sister
A Spalding woman is taking part in a zip wire challenge to raise money for the charity which cared for her sister and supported her family.
Emma Wilson (30) is taking part in Teenage Cancer Trust’s fundraiser Zip Wire for Stephen on Saturday, September 7, in memory of her sister Lou.
The event will be held at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry, which is the world’s fastest zip wire.
The event marks five years since the death of Stephen Sutton, viral fundraiser for Teenage Cancer Trust, who was a huge inspiration to Lou during her treatment.
Lou was diagnosed with a Pineoblastoma in 2014, a few months after Stephen Sutton’s death and was treated on Teenage Cancer Trust’s specialist units at Nottingham City Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, where she received radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment.
Lou’s Teenage Cancer Trust nurse supported her throughout, and helped her whole family come to terms with the situation.
Emma said: “When I saw Jane Sutton asking people to sign up for Zip Wire for Stephen, I knew Lou would be 100 per cent behind it!
"She was a total adrenaline junky, so I know she’d be up for it if she was here.
"Stephen passed away just a few months after Lou was diagnosed, so he was an important figure to her, and someone she really looked up to.
“I’ve set my target to £1,000, I know it’s way above the minimum target, but I wanted to set something challenging, and I know the incredible things that Teenage Cancer Trust can do with that money to help young people like Lou.
“Teenage Cancer Trust were so supportive to Lou and our entire family, right up until the end, and even afterwards.
"They treated Lou as a person, not just a patient – there was genuine love and support there.
"People who looked after Lou came to her funeral and on the anniversary of Lou’s death, we got a card just to say that everyone was thinking of us.”
