Winter Paralympian Jade Etherington was also special guest at the South Holland Duke of Edinburgh Award Committee’s presentation evening, also held at the University Academy Holbeach.

Jade gave an inspirational speech about her Olympic successes and the trials and tribulations leading up to that event before she presented the Awards.

Some 83 Bronze Awards were shared by candidates from Spalding High School, Spalding Open Award Group, University Academy Holbeach and Spalding Grammar School.

A total of 51 Silver Awards went to candidates from Spalding Open, Spalding Grammar and UA Holbeach .

Six candidates from UA Holbeach, three from Spalding High and four from Spalding Open received Gold Awards, though these 13 will receive their full certificates at a Palace Presentation, probably from Prince Edward.

The packed hall heard from a number of the successful candidates giving short talks or showing videos about their experiences, especially about their expeditions.

The committee was grateful for the presence of representatives from many local clubs and to receive cheques from Spalding Lions, Spalding Inner Wheel and Spalding East Towns Women’s Guild.
