Learning Bollywood dancing was a hoot for pupils at Sutton St James Community Primary School.
Classes including the Owls wore authentic colourful costumes to learn modern Indian dancing, made popular following films such as Slumdog Millionaire.
The workshop was held by Jaya Dance, which specialises in teaching Bollywood and Bhangra dance as part of the national curriculum and Ofsted requirements to teach children about cultural diversity and citizenship,
Headteacher Claire Williams said each class spent the morning learning about the Indian culture and dance.
Then pupils were taught a dance to present to parents later in the day at a special assembly.
Claire said: “The dances were different for each class. Some had colourful scarves and all of the children were dressed in authentic costumes.
“The youngest children in the Wrens class learned a slower dance with the speed increasing with the age of the children.
“Children and staff had a great time joining in with the dances.
“During assembly many of the parents who had come to watch also joined in with the dances and really enjoyed themselves.”
