STUDENTS from University Academy Holbeach stepped out for a night of glitz and glamour for their Oscars awards night – and were royally entertained by former X Factor band The Risk.

The hairdressing and beauty awards were held at Whaplode Manor, and there was a theme of black tie and diamonds as students, staff, family and friends turned up for a red carpet welcome.

Two 16-year-old boys proved they were the real stars from the academy, as Shazad Yasin collected the Oscar for the outstanding student of year and Sam Allen won hairdressing student of the year.

Jane Matthews-Bedford, hairdressing and beauty coordinator at the academy, said: “It was a brilliant night.”

More than 100 people attended.

The audience loved hearing The Risk as well as seeing singer Brandon Cox, who has just left the academy.

Many queued to have photographs taken with The Risk and bagged autographs.
