Banned Spalding driver drove car 300 yards to sell it

A disqualified driver who drove his car to work to sell it has been ordered to carry out unpaid work for the community.

Artur Jarek (39), of Park Road, Spalding admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Marie Stace, prosecuting, said he was seen by police at 10am on April 26 driving his Mazda car in Cowbit Road and a check revealed he had been banned from driving the previous July for 13 months for an excess alcohol offence.

Michelle Elvin, mitigating, said Jarek thought his ban had ended. She said he had driven 300 yards from his home to the garage where he worked because there was someone there who wanted to buy it.

The court was told he had bought the car after his driving ban had been imposed, with a view to 'doing it up' for his girlfriend, but had changed his mind and decided to sell it instead.

He was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work for the community and a further six months was added to his driving ban.

In addition he was ordered to pay £170 in cost and charges.
