Merchant Navy Veteran Peter Carpenter has been awarded the Veterans Star and the Merchant Navy Service Medal for his service during the Second World War. Roy Glencross, chairman of the Boston and South Lincs Branch of the Merchant Navy Association (MNA), organised the presentation and was the instigator in acquiring the medals for the ceremony in Spalding on Sunday. Mr Carpenter (87) was on the first ship carrying supplies and equipment to reach Caen in France during the war, which meant allied forces were able to push through. He also survived two ships that sank.
