A four-year-old boy from Gosberton Risegate has spurred students’ fundraising efforts.

Pupils at Thomas Cowley High School in Donington raised money from their annual Fun Run for Children with Cancer UK and Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust.

A staff member said the charities were chosen to boost the fundraising efforts of Jo and Gavin Devaney, who son Lucas has leukaemia.

The staff member said: “Their family has a three-generation connection to Thomas Cowley, with many family members attending the school in the past.”

Jo and Lucas, whose treatments continue until 2018, visited the school to thank the students for their efforts and generous donation. They were presented with a cheque for £387.27 by headteacher Ian Dawson, head girl Megan Bean and head boy Alex Wheaton.

Mr Dawson said Thomas Cowley students were always very generous in their support of others.

The Devaneys’ fundraising is ongoing – if anyone would like to donate they can go to virginmoneygiving.com and type in ‘Gareth Devaney’ and that will bring up all the information on Lucas’s home page.
