DONINGTON is one of just 77 entrants to become a Britain in Bloom finalist, beating over a thousand competitors.
The town will be visited by a panel of national Royal Horticultural Society judges later this year where Donington in Bloom will hope to impress in the Large Village category.
A spokesman for the group said: “We are honoured to be invited to represent Donington in the Britain in Bloom competition and hope that we can achieve a good result for the community.”
A core group of 14 volunteers, supported by many more, have helped Donington in the East Midlands in Bloom campaign for six years, going from bronze to gold awards in that time.
Stephanie Enyon, RHS Community Horticulture Manager, said: “We are delighted that Donington has been chosen as one of the finalists
“All the selected communities have put in a lot of hard work and to get this far means they are already something special.”
Last year Long Sutton tied with four other towns to take fourth place in the small town category.
Entrants are invited after taking gold in the regional competitions.
