Donations still pouring in to vandal-hit Market Deeping Model Railway Club
Donations are still pouring in to Market Deeping Model Railway Club some 11 days after exhibits at its annual show were wrecked beyond repair.
Yesterday cash donations topped £106,000 - including £10,000 given by singer Sir Rod Stewart - and the club is taking the first steps towards setting up a trust.
Every one of the near 5,396 people who donated via JustGiving is receiving a personal thank you from club secretary Brian Norris.
Aside from cash offers, the club has been inundated with generous offers of model locomotives, carriages, track and other kit.
Club chairman Peter Davies said: "We are overwhelmed and overjoyed at the incredible public response.
"It's just staggering and incredibly humbling that these people are trusting us with their donations."
So far as the kit is concerned, Mr Davies said: "We have printed off over 1,000 emails and divided them into 21 categories of offer."
Fledgling plans for a trust fund include setting up a youth project or projects as well as helping other clubs.
The club is also looking at hiring secure storage for the donated kit.
* The club bounced back on Friday with a layout at the Deepings Literary Festival and expects to appear any day now on BBC1's The One Show.
