Signs warning dog owners of £75 fines for leaving mess on pavements have gone up in an area of Bourne.
Warning signs telling people to pick up after their pets are now on display in Saffron Walk following a review by South Holland District Council to tackle the problem.
Ian Yates, executive manager for the environment at South Kesteven District Council, said: “We will always look to educate dog owners on their responsibilities and the wider issues and dangers of not picking up after a dog in public places.
“Increased and up-to-date signage and patrols from our environmental health team encourages the minority of owners who allow their pets to foul to think twice.
“The team also liaises with owners on just how dangerous it can be to leave mess in public places given it contains bacteria that can be harmful to children and adults if they come into contact with the mess.”
